Merry Christmas!
Bare with me for a minute...lol
I pride myself in taking great care when i put tapes together. Even when you send me your recordings & the shit is str8 g'd up! I still sit there for hours on end trying to tweek the barstid to an acceptable listen :P But this particular tape here 'Tha Ghetto Blast' pretty much drove me nuts. Like...When you're putting a tape together of music from the states or high profiled artists in NZ you know the quality is gonna be nice, therefore it's easier to mix & EQ . This is not a moan at all by the way. Basically all the tracks presented to me for this tape were recorded in different environments. Also a lot of the beats were locally produced and who has the means by where they can get their shit mix & mastered? Not me anyway.
The day i wanted to release this i basically pulled away because i wasn't happy with it's over all sound & i guess looking back now it had an effect on my motivation to get real busy on it (as you will hear) or maybe im just a fussy cunt!
If anything let me leave you with a bit of advice for 2010. "Up your game in all areas" projecting quality sound is the key to grabbing your listeners ear. Learn how to get the best sound out of your equipment & often compare your sound to a high profiled artists CD. Never stop learning how you can make your product sound dope!
Anyway its been 2 years now (hence why i dont mind telling you all this), and since it's christmas this ones for my real heads out there. Shout out to everyone on this tape & shot out to my uso Juse1 for the cover. Merry Christmas yo! Be safe over the holiday season!

SMVs top 10 Hip Hop albums of the Decade
Ohhh shit here we go. So i had this cool lil yarn on twitter last night with the homies Kage & USOuljah about our personal top 5 albums of the decade. Yup 5! Do you know how fucken hard that is? So i had a think about my top 10 & it just got worse! Im sitting on 12 but im about to say fuck it & just throw up from any random 10 out my list of 12 lol... ok check it...(in no particular order.)
PS: Don't try doing the 90s it's impossible :P
This is my number one album of the decade! Every song is perfect! Lyrics, execution, flow, structure you name it!
All im a say is this album CHANGED THE GAME period!
Haha fuck the voice i love this shit. How u gonna be the man at every track during your whole career (minus the T.I song) & straight kill that shit. Dre on the beats! When this dude dies they'll prolly call him the greatest!
Back in the early Roc days i used to read the credits on albums for producers & Kaynes name would come up. I thought damn what a soulfull dude! Hearing this & learning he could rap aswell was cool! He made you forget he was a beat maker & vice versa. Every joint was ill! Definately changed up the game from the soulfulll un-gangster side of hip hop.
Like 'Get rich or die trying' this is a modern day Dre classic IMO. Dude was new, from the west, Had Dre on the boards & G-Unit by his side. Every song bangs & he just goes for the win!
Slaughthouse (IMO) has reset the train back on its tracks in a decade where this rapshit has gone softt! I love this album for doing that. All the MCs are skilled in their art & it feels like the old shit with a modern twist. DOPE
One of my all time favorite producers came out with this '1st Infantry' back in 2005 & it honestly blew me away. Every beat bangs. & its just that good ol street shit! Nas, Game, Mobb Deep, Cypress Hill, G-Unit, Dblock. How could he loose? ALC
Nas was at his height right here! the battle with Jay-Z was classic & was basically a 'ayo look at us were the kings of NY right now'. There's no question Jay got murdered, stabbed, sliced, diced & gunned down in 'Ether' that song alone wins it for me lol
Also... Stillmatic, Got yourself a gun, One mic, The flyest. Yurrr
To me this was like the new sound but the old sound you know? Like its the new millennium but RZA brought the elements of the old WU with him. Make sense? Well fuck yah then! IN THA HOOD!
DAZ is like a label pimp. He gets what he wants out of a deal n moves on. JD came thru on this album. I love it when the producer knows what hiis artist will sound good over. This is a true testament to that.
BTW way i wanna mention Lil Brother 'The Minstrel Show', G-Unit 'Beg for mercy', Common 'Be', Ghostface 'Fishscale', Royce da 5'9" 'Street Hop', Lil Wayne 'The Carter 3', Jay-Z 'Black Album' ... yeh yeh i know i said 12... I'll stop then :P

DJ AM Sneaker Collection “Under Glass”
Seen this over at Nice Kicks & thought it was dope!
n the wake of DJ AM ’s untimely passing, his family and foundation have decided to auction his extensive sneaker collection for charity’s sake. As a part of the month-long auction, which can be found on eBay, UNDFTD’s Silverlake location is currently displaying a small portion of AM’s collection under glass for store visitors to check out.
Eddie Cruz and the team at UNDFTD have been instrumental in helping the DJ AM Foundation organize this auction, along with Deckstar and a number of friends of the world famous DJ. If you’re in the area, swing by the store and check out what’s on display, or head to the auction and grab a new pair for a good cause.

GAS'D UP!
Back in 2005 or 06? ( don't judge me blame the chronic ) i was living in Welli at the time. I would travel back home often (Waikato) & if your on the road alot you'd know that it's the perfect time to listen to albums & tapes. I put this mix together to bump in my ride. It's not just a bunch of songs from a playlist its actually cut up & mixed with tricks n shit. U know how us real DJs do :P So its a mix of shit i wanted to hear in my ride at the time. No shout outs, no drops, no signature noise. Well no my bad i lie there's one interlude by Koma (4Corners) which was a left over drop from the Transitions tape to keep it safe).
So if you wanna bump this in your ride i've uploaded it for you. Enjoy.

The Good ol Days pt.4
So im tryna get my playlists back up to scratch since my laptop died. As i sit here going through my 90s music for next weekends show with my fellow H-town legends Militia & Ric Rush i came across this classic Monica & Treach of Naughty by Nature who was one of my favourite MCs in the 90s. This song is still dope to this day and was one of those joints that wasnt on any particular artists album? But it is from the soundtrack to The Nutty Professor (Correct me if im wrong) this is going all from memory.Ahhh the good ol days!

NEW JOELL ORTIZ 'CALL ME'
SUPPORT THE CAUSE!
DOPE!
After the tragic events in Samoa last week, a group of top New Zealand entertainers have rallied together for a massive benefit concert on Monday 19th October 2009 at the Vector Arena in Auckland.
When the Tsunami hit Samoa last week, it personally affected Scribe and Savage who lost their family villages and family members in the disaster. Along with Dawn Raid, Oscar Kightley and Ole Maiava, they rapidly organized a dream line up of top NZ musicians who had no hesitation in donating their performances to this worthy cause.
All businesses, personnel and artists have given their services for free, therefore 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Samoa.
We urge all New Zealanders to support this event to aid our fellow citizens of Samoa.
Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin dates and line ups to be announced shortly.

THINKING OF SAMOA
I Just want to send my love and prayers out to my family and friends who are suffering at this tragic time. May the Lord
comfort our loved ones and help us find strength.
It's been a couple of sleepless nights and im sure that's the case for many families across the globe.
My heart aches knowing that there are lives and even children yet to be found amongst the destruction.
I can't imagine what it's like right now to wake up to such damage. I just hope that those who are suffering have a place to rest their heads and have food to eat.
Numerous organizations have launched helplines and donation projects. People concerned about family members in Samoa can call the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade on 04 439 8000, and provide as many contact details as possible.
Anyone worried about the safety of non-New Zealand relatives in Samoa should contact the Samoan High Commission on 04 472 0953. Remember that Vodafone and 2degrees has made it possible to call any number in Samoa for free. Just look up each networks details for info.
The New Zealand Red Cross has also launched a Samoa Tsunami Relief project at www.givealittle.co.nz
More donation projects can be found HERE
Please say a prayer for my people or donate how ever you can.

INTERVIEW WITH DJ IMPACT
On the 11th & 12th of September 09 DJ Impact from H-town NZ set for the UK to compete in the World DMC championships. I caught up with the brother to talk about his experience and placing 4th.
SMV Sup Brother...Congrats on placing 4th in the world DMCs last weekend! How does it feel?
IMPACT Sup uso, it's crazy man. I never wouldve thought this would ever happen to me aye, just really blown away. It was real unexpected, especially being a nobody from litte ol H-Town haha. Just really stoked bro!
SMV Were all proud of you in the H. But lets take it back aye...
SMV What Nationality are you?
IMPACT I'm half Samoan, half Palagi aye. My mum is from Si'ufaga, Savai'i, Samoa and my dad is from NZ.
SMV Where were you born & raised? & where do you reside now?
IMPACT I was born down in the 03 (Christchurch). Spent half of my childhood down there and moved up to the H (Hamilton) around 96' when I was around 10, been here ever since. H-Town all day! Hahaha, i still got got a soft spot for Chch though. Crusaders hard!
SMV how did you & I meet? No homo...
IMPACT Haha I heard of this guy around 2003 just before i started to get into dj'ing through one of the bros at high school, He always used to talk about the Tok stories hahaha, but i didnt finally meet the uso until the 2006 Last Man Standing Battles (Welli Battles). I think it was my 3rd battle and SMV was one of the judges!
SMV What crew you reppin'? Who are the members of that crew?
IMPACT I'm reppin "Elite Forces", we own this shit! Since we formed we've taken out every battle in NZ haha! It's just a little crew of 3, Wil K, Truent and myself.
SMV No Doubt
SMV How many years have you been DJing for? & what made you want to be a DJ or more so a Tablist?
IMPACT I've been dj'ing for over 5 years now, started around early 2004 on these fuckin wack ass Numark Battle Pack belt drive things haha! Back around 2002 my older cousins scored these DJ Rectangle mixtapes, i think it was Vinyl Kombat and I had a listen. I didnt really know what dj'ing/scratching was at the time but when i heard heard all those back to backs, scratch breaks and tracks being mixed together, i was like dayymn this is really dope. Not long after that they scored a copy of the 1999 DMC US Finals on vhs. After watching that whole battle i was hooked and said to myself, i gotta start doing this shit.
SMV What did you learn the most from your experience in the UK?
IMPACT They have heaps of beautiful women in the UK haha! Nah but for real, i feel like i've gained alot more experience and confidence from the battle. I saw alot of different styles/techniques at the DMC's this year so it's back to the lab and drawing board to improve on this years performance.
SMV Did you get to meet Qbert? Any other legends? What was that like?
IMPACT It was awesome to get to meet the guys you've looked up to on the video tapes. I got to meet Qbert at the DMC's, He was a real down to earth guy aye, hardcase too. He was reminiscing hardout about the show he did back here in 2002 and how he had a dope time in NZ. Got to meet Rob Swift too, he was the man! Did a showcase to kick off the night before the battle started, the homie smashed it. There were alot of other legends around too that i didnt expect to be there but were because it was the 25th Anniversary so it was a big one. Some of them were Qbert, Rob Swift, Prime Cuts, Tigerstyle, Woody, Blakey, Sparky T, Supreme who was competing, there were alot more.
SMV How do you feel about the Turntablism / Battle scene in Aotearoa right now? Whats good & whats lacking?
IMPACT I feel that it's getting stronger. This year there was a big improvement in the skill level, everyone switched up their game hard. I wont say too much about whats good and whats lacking because everyone will practice those things hardout and i'll get smoked next year haha!
SMV I've always wondered what the likes of yourself P-Money, CXL & Manchoo would be taking in from been in a world class environment like the DMCs. Does it have an effect on the way you put your future sets together?
IMPACT Yeah definitely.
SMV If you could time travel to an era of any DJ battle which era would it be & why?
IMPACT I wish i started dj'ing a bit earlier because i missed out on alot of good stuff. I wish I could time travel back to the Golden Era of DJ Battles. Around the mid 90's to early 00's (95 to 01). Back then there was so much funk and stuff in the battles. I reckon it's moved away from that direction, don't get me wrong i really get into whats going on currently but i wish it returned back to that funky, raw, original hiphop flavour.
SMV Who are your favorite DJs to watch right now? Whos hot?
IMPACT Shiftee from the US, he killed it at the worlds. Same as Coma from Japan and Switch from the UK. Kireek (Hi and Yasa) from Japan and all the french dj's in Traumateam.
SMV Who are the DJs you look up 2 past n present?
IMPACT Grandwizard Theodore, Grandmaster Flash, Joe Cooley, Jazzy Jeff. Cash Money, Aladdin, Invisibl Skratch Piklz, The Allies, Slyce, Swift Rock, Scratch Perverts, Troubl, Rafik, Ie.Merg, Netik, too many to write.
SMV Aite now... Steiny Pures or Coronas?
IMPACT Hmmm decisions, both haha!
SMV Allies or Perverts?
IMPACT The muthafuckin Allies.
SMV Chiefs or Crusaders?
IMPACT Crusaders.
SMV FAIL!
SMV DMC or IDAs?
IMPACT I've done the DMC's a couple of times now so i'd have to say the IDA's because I wanna bring that shit home to the H from Australia.
SMV Shot uso all the best for the future.... HTOWN!
